The Psychology of Getting Franchisee Buy-In to Change
200 CFE Credits
Franchisors increasingly need to roll out new initiatives to keep their networks successful and competitive. Yet franchisees will often resist, especially if they are being asked to think differently or invest significant time or money. This workshop equips franchisor executives with the tools and skills to engage and communicate with franchisees in ways that secure their commitment and support.
Participants are encouraged to bring real change initiatives they are involved with. The workshop is highly interactive and practical, and teaches proven techniques and processes, based on years of franchising and psychological research. Plenty of time is devoted to small group discussions and reflection to bring the learning to life.
Through presentations, discussion and reflection, you will learn the following:
- Important psychological insights on what drives franchisee commitment and engagement, and how to apply these.
- How different types of change affect the brain, and why franchisors and franchisees often see the same change in different ways.
- How to face resistance and lead unpopular changes in a calm, courageous and confident manner.
- Why certain types of change provoke greater resistance, and how to quickly move franchisees from defensiveness to acceptance and engagement.
- The most common and costly mistakes franchisors make when introducing change, and how to avoid these.
- How to maintain a culture of positive engagement and prevent systemic stress during periods of uncertainty and upheaval.
- How to address franchisee concerns in an open and constructive manner, and have difficult conversations that avoid unnecessary conflict.
- The nine evidence-based principles behind FRI’s FRANCHISE Change Model, along with proven tools and processes to implement these.
Participants will receive a Learning Journal with reference materials and reflection exercises to record their insights.
The workshop will be conducted by FRI’s Founder and psychologist, Greg Nathan, who is also a best-selling author on franchising and an FCA and FANZ Hall of Fame inductee.

Reputation Under Fire: A Franchising Playbook for Prevention, Management and Response
200 CFE Credits
Reputation is a franchise network’s most exposed asset. One franchisee’s bad day can become the whole network’s national story within hours, and most franchisors only find out when the doorstep knock happens. Most crises are not a bolt from the blue, they build inside the organisation long before they break, which means most are also preventable. This workshop gives you the playbook: how to prevent the crises you can see coming, manage the ones you can’t, and turn the response into a competitive advantage rather than just damage control.
Led by two of Australia’s most experienced reputation and crisis specialists, drawing on more than 30 years managing issues in the media, political and legal arenas, the session moves from real franchise crises through to a practical, evidence-based framework you can apply to your own network immediately.
Bring a real issue from your network. The workshop is highly interactive and practical, combining presentations, small group discussion and a live scenario workshop where you run your own issue through Alpha’s Prepare, Identify, Manage, Respond framework.
You will learn:
- Why franchise networks carry outsized reputational risk, and where your own network is most exposed.
- How to read the early warning signs of a smouldering issue before it turns sudden, most crises give notice, if you know what you’re watching for.
- Alpha’s six-stage crisis lifecycle, Shock, Impact, Blame, Fallout, Parallels, Prevention, and the discipline each stage demands.
- How to map any issue across the three fronts that matter, your internal network, government and regulators, and the public, rather than reacting to the loudest one.
- How to build the prevention groundwork, health checks, playbooks, spokesperson training, before you ever need it.
- How to run the first hour: who needs to be in the room, what to say, and what to hold back.
- How to sequence a sustained response across franchisees, government and media as an issue moves through its later stages.
- When and how disciplined crisis management can convert a threat into competitive advantage, not just survival.
Participants will receive a Reputation Readiness Toolkit, with a three fronts self-assessment, a crisis lifecycle quick-reference card, a first-hour checklist and a reputation health check prompt sheet to start applying the learning back at work.
Creating Better Results Through Better Thinking
200 CFE Credits
This interactive four-hour workshop will help participants understand how the way they think influences the results they create in both their personal and professional lives.
Through the facilitation and practical exercises, participants will explore what they really really want, recognise the thinking and behaviour they have had on repeat, understand how the way they see themselves influences their results, and learn how to create a better direction for their future.
The workshop will focus on four key areas:
- Imagination – getting clear on what you really really want rather than thinking from current circumstances.
- Responsibility – recognising the habits and behaviours that are creating current results and how to change them.
- Self-Image – understanding how the picture you hold of yourself influences what you believe you can or cannot do.
- Attitude – understanding how your thoughts, feelings and actions influence your actions and ultimately your results.
Participants will leave with a greater awareness of how they are currently thinking, what they want instead, and practical actions they can begin applying immediately.
The purpose is: to help people stop operating on repeat and start thinking more consciously about the results they want to create.
